Work for us

The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is a non-profit marine conservation, science and education organization located in Fort Worden State Park and downtown Port Townsend, Washington. We serve our mission to empower conservation for a thriving Salish Sea by focusing in three areas:

  • Lifelong education programs for all ages, offering summer camps, education programming, a lecture series, guided low tide walks and more,
  • Citizen science research, partnering with government, non-profit, tribal and education organizations.
  • Engaging visitor experiences at our locations in Fort Worden State Park and in downtown Port Townsend.

Our two Fort Worden State Park facilities house a small, vibrant Aquarium featuring over 150 species from the nearshore habitats of the Salish Sea, a Museum with a fully-articulated orca skeleton and natural history collections, and classrooms. The downtown facility is currently home to a Visitor Center, Store and Gallery, and the Whale on the Wharf. Our exhibits explore how human impacts such as climate change stress the fragile ecosystems in the Salish Sea, and what people can do, through their collective actions, to affect positive change.

The Port Townsend Marine Science Center serves over 24,000 people annually, operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, with a $1.3M operating budget, 14 staff, and over 100 volunteers.

PTMSC will provide equal opportunity to all applicants regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, ancestry, disability, pregnancy, military status, marital status, order of protection status, genetic information, sexual orientation, transgender status, or any other category protected by law, in accordance with all applicable law.
