The Port Townsend Marine Science Center makes hands-on exploration of the Salish Sea accessible to everyone. Our interactive natural history museum and hands-on aquarium feature countless animals, plants, and objects to discover including touch tanks, microscopes, a hydrophone to listen to whales off shore, and one of only six fully-articulated Orca skeletons in the United States.
Low-tide beach walks help introduce people of all ages to the vibrant coastal ecosystem we call home. Oceanography on the Dock, a free summer activity, emphasizes that anyone can become a scientist. Participants learn first-hand how climate change affects our local ocean and help the Science Center collect important data on the health of the Salish Sea. Seasonal Wildlife Cruises to Protection Island allow participants to observe seals, sea lions, and seabirds in their natural habitat with expert commentary from an onboard naturalist and PTMSC hosts.
