If you love the Salish Sea and enjoy sharing with others about what makes this such a special place, consider becoming a docent interpreter in the newly remodeled 502 Building (formerly Museum) at Fort Worden.

This training will focus on the themes, messages, and activities of the new exhibits, and your role in helping all of our visitors have the best experience possible.

 As a docent you will:

• Be a welcoming and engaging exhibit “host” to visitors of all ages and interests

• Make sure our visitors get the most out of their visit by sharing not just your knowledge of the Salish Sea but also what inspires you to be part of an ocean conservation community

• Connect visitors to PTMSC projects, programs and events that help that community grow

• Tell our staff what works well and what needs to be tweaked in the coming year as a front-line evaluator

• Be deeply appreciated by visitors from all over the world as well as PTMSC regulars from our nearby communities

The exhibit will be open Thursday- Monday, from 12 – 5 p.m.
Shifts will be 11:45 am- 2:15 pm and 2:15- 5:00 p.m.
You can schedule a regular weekly shift,  plug in to the schedule less frequently, or be on call.

Part 1 training is devoted to the “dry side” of the building which we are preparing to open to the public in early July.
The orca (Hope) and gray whale (Spirit) skeletons remain, but everything else is new – New signage, new collections on display, a new family area, and much more.

Work continues on installing the aquarium exhibits in the other half of the building, and a separate training will be scheduled when it’s ready.

We know from our visitors that PTMSC docents make all the difference in the quality of the visitor’s experience, and we hope you will join us in this important role.
