Nearshore habitats of the Salish Sea

Discover the nearshore habitats of the Salish Sea in our aquarium featuring local fish and invertebrate species. These narrow zones, where land and sea meet, are critical to the health of the entire watershed. Twice daily ebb and flood tides set a rhythm along the 4,600 miles of shoreline, supporting an astonishing diversity of life.

Explore habitat exhibits including the rocky intertidal, kelp forests, and eelgrass beds. See the animals in these habitats, and find out more about the challenges they face and the adaptations they’ve made to thrive and survive.

While you’re in Port Townsend, head downtown to check out our Visitor Center, Store and Gallery, and just a block away you’ll find the Whale on the Wharf!
